Direct cremation, or unattended cremation, is a low-cost funeral option where a body is cremated without any funeral service or mourners present. Harris & Steadman direct cremations provide an affordable alternative to a full-service funeral, without compromising on the quality of care for your loved one. This is also known as a simple, unattended or pure cremation – is a funeral without a ceremony at the crematorium or church.
The person who has died is transported to the crematorium, and the ashes are returned to the family afterwards. A separate memorial service or celebration of life can be held later, allowing family and friends to gather in their own time to honor the deceased.
The following services are included:
- Professional services - Taking care of all necessary legal and administrative arrangements
- Removal to our Chapel from within a 15 mile radius* 24hrs a day
- Preparation and care of the deceased (including dressing in own clothes if required)
- Private Chapel of Rest
- Provision of a simple coffin
- Provision of Funeral Director throughout
- Appropriate vehicle to transport your loved one to a Crematorium

This is a dignified cremation arranged by ourselves. There is no service, and therefore no mourners can attend. Your loved one is looked after at our funeral home and treated with dignity and respect until the day of the cremation.
