Funeral Costs Explained

Funeral costs explained. Any funeral has different costs associated with it, but there are broadly 3 separate areas of how funeral charges are worked out and calculated to give the final chargeable amount. On this page we have outlined the three different areas that you will need to know about.

If you want help and advice then please just ask us. Losing someone we love is traumatic and regardless of whether their passing is expected, or unexpected, then it is reassuring to know that we care and will support you.

Funeral Director Fees

Every funeral director by law should publish what is called the Standardised Price List. This should appear on their website, and be available to look at when you visit the funeral home. Our standardised price list is available on our costs and prices page, or you can download it by clicking the button below.

Third Party Costs

Third party costs are costs like the burial fees or cremation fees. Sometimes called disbursements, these costs cover additional services or those provided by third parties including:

  • Medical forms.
  • Burial or cremation fees.
  • Church fees.
  • Specialist funeral transport, printing and flowers.

Optional Extras

Optional extras would be things such as flowers and catering, orders of service, memorials, or placing obituary notices in newspapers or online. Optional extras can be a significant portion of the total, with costs varying based on personal preferences.
